Electrolysis Permanent Hair Removal
Electrolysis permanent hair removal is a popular form of hair removal, preferred by many women looking to remove hair for good. Carried out by beauticians and trained professionals, electrolysis is the removal of hair by short pulses of electricity directly into the hair follicle. It is a very effective treatment, but does come at a high cost, and is very time consuming, as each hair is individually zapped out, one at a time. Depending on the density of your hair, it could be quite a long process, and it could require repeat treatments. Electrolysis is a popular method of hair removal however, as it offers permanent or extremely long lasting results.
What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is the actual process of removing the hair, whereby a hair electrolysis expert slides a hair-thin metal probe into each hair follicle. Electricity is then delivered to the follicle, which damages the areas generating the hairs. Electrolysis is a very thorough and time consuming method of permanent hair removal, however it is very effective. One by one, each hair will be removed, and this method will also thwart re-growth, thus results are pretty much permanent.
There are three known types of electrolysis, namely Galvanic, Thermolysis and Blend.
Galvanic, which was first used in 1875, and is the oldest known form of electrolysis. It is a chemical method that uses a direct electrical current into the hair follicle. The chemical reaction that occurs, which is contained in the follicle, destroys the hair and the follicle.
Thermolysis was developed in the 1920s and works like electrolysis, except that instead of using electric currents to zap the hair in the follicle, it uses intense pulses of heat to burn the follicles. Although faster that electrolysis, it is less reliable than galvanic electrolysis. This electrolysis process is also known as ‘short-wave radio frequency diathermy’.
Blend electrolysis is a combination of both Galvanic and Thermolysis, therefore combining the many advantages of both. The heat used in thermolysis as well as the electric pulses and chemical reaction created in the galvanic process both work together to speed up the process and produce more effective and permanent results. Consequently, it is the quickest method of hair removal.
Pros of Electrolysis Permanent Hair Removal
- Electrolysis is a good method of hair removal if one is looking for permanent hair removal.
- Electrolysis hair removal is said to last longer than other permanent hair removal techniques.
- There is a chance of hair re-growth in all permanent hair removal situations but electrolysis hair removal is meant to have the lowest recurring rate.
- Electrolysis permanent hair removal is cheaper when compared with other permanent hair removal methods.
- Hair Electrolysis is also good for removing curved or distorted hairs.
- Electrolysis permanent hair removal treatments can be undertaken on all skin types and colours, unlike others.
Cons of Electrolysis Permanent Hair Removal
- Electrolysis permanent hair removal is a very slow process
- Undertaking electrolysis permanent hair removal can be very painful on sensitive areas.
- If the needle is not correctly inserted and hit the root directly, there is a high chance of re-growth.
- Needle scars can be left if the area where permanent hair removal is undertaken is not treated carefully enough.
